2009 is seeing many new trends in the world of bathrooms and it is all about invoking the Zen feeling with “green” products and eco friendly fixtures. You can create a spa-like environment or create a fun and young place that allows your mood to be lifted and spiritual sense to be rejuvenated.
Many think of their bathrooms as the one place to escape to or seek peace in when they come back home after a long hard day at work or through personal trials. The trends making waves are varying from Zen feels to luxurious boutique hotel looks, from modern fittings to retro fit outs. Let’s take a closer look at what’s making news this year, and you don’t even have to tear everything down or undergo a complete bathroom renovation for these changes.
• Vessel Sinks: You could upgrade from a common pedestal or the sunken vanity sink to a vessel sink. They are free standing bowls that are shaped differently and their composition varies from glass to bronze to stone. They can be modern, traditional, funky, cutting edge and very elegant as well.
• Faucet Finishes: Faucets with new finishes are another trend. You can get choices varying from oil rubbed bronze, polished brass, pewter, satin chrome or even plain black. Remember, everything, like the faucets and fixtures, doesn’t have to match perfectly; you can have a mix and match look happening, which looks very interesting.
• Eco Friendly Must Haves: Water conservation, electricity conservation and environmental awareness have become a big part of interior designs. You can install eco friendly toilets and showerheads, which are not only cost effective, but have a less negative impact on the environment as well.
• The Retro Fit Out: The retro look is back with claw foot tubs, classic floor tiles, bright colours, retro posters, etc. They all look really great and these are just tiny changes that don’t involve major renovations.
• Colour It Up: An instant way to change the look of any room is to colour it differently. Colours that are making trends for bathrooms today are fresh and invigorating colours that breathe life into an old bathroom. Think of colours like sage, lemongrass, orange, yellow, etc, combined with stark white fixtures, with warmer tones and bamboo or wooden accessories and cabinets.
• Multimedia: Today multimedia is not limited only to the living areas or bedrooms, but has now found its way into your bathroom as well. You can get a complete home system installed or go smaller with a flat screen on one wall. A great audio system is a must for a complete relaxing experience, though, and you could even get a dock installed for your I-Pod.
